The Diversidad interview : Frenkie (BA)

1.Before Diversidad, had you collaborated with foreign artists? If you have, which artists, which project?
Yes! I often record tracks with another artist from Bosnia, but also from Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Germany. A few of them are: Edo Maajka(BiH), Pal one(GER), Flipstar(GER), Marchelo (Serbia), of course my people from Elemental(CRO), Bolesna Braća(CRO) etc…

2.Have you already performed abroad? in Europe? Where?

Yes. I performed in Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Swizerland, Holland, Denmark, France, Sweden, Serbia, Macedonia, Monte Negro, America and Canada.

3.If you have, what’s your best / worst memory while performing abroad?
Well, a lot of our concerts were great. Berlin was nice, Wiena also, Skopje is always crazy, Zagreb is cool, Ljubljana too, but somehow the best concerts are at home in Tuzla

4.What would be your dream collaboration if you could pick a European artist to record a track with?
Well I like German rap a lot. Curse is already one of my favorite artists. But also there is Kool Savas. He is one of the greatest mc-s in Germany. Also I’m a big fan of NTM!

5.Where have you always dreamed to perform at and why (in Europe: festivals, venue, cities, countries, random place?)

I like festivals like Splash in Germany. I don’t know all the names of the festivals but in general, festivals are great whatever country.

6.For the fans who don’t understand your lyrics, can you briefly describe what you usually rap/sing about?

Basically conscious rap with a little bit of battle styles. But I cannot say that I write just about that. I rap about everything.

7.Which city are you from? What do you like/hate most about your city?
I’m from Tuzla (Bosnia & Hercegovina). My city is not that big, so we don’t have a crazy night life, but I’m very proud of my city because Tuzla is in rap for Bosnia like New York is for America. Mekka! :)

8.What are the coolest hip hop places to hang out in your city (bar, restaurants, clubs, venues, other…)?
Cafe bar Sloboda (translation: Café Freedom) and Dom maldih.

9.What’s your favorite place in Europe and why?
Paris is just a beautiful city. Zagreb i love and Ljubljana is also very nice.

10.In about 5 words how do you describe the urban culture in your country?
Small, political, rap, punk, reggae.

11.Could you give the English translation to about 3 or 4 key words from the hip hop culture in your own language/slang?
I’m down means: čuvam đale! ajt means: udure! and your song is whack means: pjesma ti je karina!

12.What does Diversidad represent for you?
Diversidad brings people together. That’s the main idea of music.

13.What was your motivation in participating in Diversidad?
To meet new great artist and to have fun.

14.What’s your best and worst memory from the album recording session in Brussels?
Not enough beer.

15.Did you know any of the other artists from the Diversidad selection before getting to the Brussels studio in March?
I knew Elemental personally, and I heard Curse’s music. That’s it.

16.How do you imagine your music career in 5 years from now?
I will be on stage performing.

17.How many cds have you released so far and what are they called?
I released five albums, one EP for free on the Internet and one mixtape. My albums are called:
•    Odličan cd (The perfect cd),
•    Dosta! (Enough!),
•    Povratak cigana (Return of the gipsy),
•    Pokreni se EP (Move EP)
•    Protuotrov (Antidote)
•    Featuring (Mixtape)

18.Any awards or anything you’re particularly proud of in your music career so far?
I got two awards for my first album. One in Croatia and one in Bosnia. I also made music for one theater play.
